On 1 July, GoLLM will contribute to the CIEH AI & Tech Conference, where CEO Daniel Shorr will present findings from GoLLM's AI Readiness research during the conference's closing session, followed by a Q&A with members of the wider GoLLM research team.
Hosted by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), the conference brings together environmental health and regulatory professionals to explore how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are shaping public services and regulatory practice. With a history spanning more than 140 years, CIEH is one of the UK's leading professional bodies for environmental health, supporting practitioners working across public health, food safety, housing, environmental protection and wider regulatory services.
This year's programme examines a range of practical applications of AI, including public health guidance at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), digital transformation at the UK border, and AI-powered approaches to environmental health inspections. The conference provides an opportunity to explore not only what AI can do but also what organisations need to adopt it responsibly and effectively.
Closing the digital divide: how ready are local authorities?
Daniel's session will draw on findings from GoLLM's AI Readiness research, exploring what public-sector organisations need to move from early experimentation to responsible, practical AI adoption.
The session will consider where local authorities are making progress, where gaps remain, and what this means for environmental health, regulatory services and other organisations navigating AI adoption.
As AI moves from pilot projects to operational deployment, questions of organisational readiness, governance, capability development, leadership and public trust are becoming just as important as the technology itself. Understanding these factors is essential if organisations are to realise the benefits of AI while managing risk and maintaining confidence among stakeholders.

About the research
The AI Readiness research was led by GoLLM and co-authored by Daniel Shorr and Dr Luciana Blaha of Heriot-Watt University. The project also benefited from contributions from members of Dr Blaha's Intelligent Automation Systems Lab, alongside engagement from sector partners and local government stakeholders.
Since publication, the findings have been discussed at conferences, sector events and in global media coverage examining the future of AI adoption in public services.
The conference session will be followed by a Q&A involving members of the wider GoLLM research team, including Erin John, Alvira Khan, Chunche Lee and Jim McConnell.
